Nocté
and Weight Management
Nocté is a low fat product containing
27g of protein but with a mere 139 kcal per vanilla sachet
and 149 kcal per chocolate sachet. It is not, however, the
low energy content that makes Nocté a good product to aid
weight loss. The nutrients in Nocté have a direct effect
on the body to promote sensible eating patterns and address
snacking behaviour.
How does
Nocté help manage weight?
1.
Poor sleep negatively affects the appetite hormone ghrelin.
Ghrelin levels increase with sleep debt and as a result
ghrelin sends more messages to the brain telling us to eat.
Not only that, the messages are quite specific and request
sweet and fatty foods – foods unfortunately most likely
to cause weight gain.(1) Nocté helps to regulate
ghrelin levels, the result being less cravings and a greater
feeling of fullness. If 60% of the population have not slept
sufficiently at some time during the week many of us are
at risk of sleep debt snacking behaviours.
2. Poor sleep
reduces the production of the hormone leptin. A reduction
in leptin is read by the brain as a sign of malnourishment
and consequently the brain will tell us to eat. This increase
in appetite stimulates eating behaviour but for the wrong
reason – sleep debt not energy debt. Nocté
helps to readdress this balance.
3. Poor sleep
has been shown to increase body mass index – a measure
of body weight in relation to height. (2) Nocté is
key in promoting restful, health giving sleep.
4. Poor sleep
reduces serotonin levels – a brain transmitter which
influences mood. Low serotonin levels are associated with
low mood, depression and anxiety. Low mood and boredom are
the main cause of comfort eating and therefore a major factor
in weight gain. Nocté helps to maintain healthy serotonin
levels.
5. Sleep is
often broken as a result of hunger, especially in the very
active. Nocté’s special slow releasing formula
prevents this happening, giving a sound night’s sleep.
Nocté helps prevent weight gain associated
with poor sleep, by promoting good quality, undisturbed sleep
allowing the body to rest, repair, recover and rebalance.
