Introduction

Insufficient or poor quality sleep leads to a decline in physical and mental performance, an impaired immune system and weight gain.
SiS has created Nocté to optimise sleep duration and quality.

Nocté contains specific ingredients, which all have a vital role to play in sleep rest, repair and recovery.

In simple terms our Nocté formula looks like this:

Protein + magnesium + zinc + vitamin B6 = sleep rest, repair and recovery

Nocté is a highly technical product. Each ingredient has a special role to play in overnight recovery. At SiS we have not only put together the most effective nutrients to aid sleep (that would be too simple!) We have designed Nocté to contain the nutrients in the scientifically correct proportions and optimal environment to ensure the body absorbs them correctly.

If you would like to know more about how each nutrient in Nocté improves sleep and therefore performance, read on!

Nutrients in Nocté and their role in improving sleep recovery

Protein
Not just any protein but a combination of specific proteins designed to provide the amino acid Tryptophan and a slow release protein to provide the body with a constant nutrition supply throughout a good nights sleep (see protein kinetics)

Role played in sleep recovery:
• Repairs muscle tissue throughout the night
• Key in the production of haemoglobin (carries oxygen in the blood)
• Aids the absorption of vitamins and minerals

Why tryptophan?
The body needs tryptophan to make the sleep hormone melatonin.
Tryptophan is one of the eight essential amino acids needed by the body. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are found in all proteins in different proportions. The body uses amino acids not only to make the proteins found in muscle but also to make important hormones and chemical messengers. Melatonin is the bodies sleep hormone and is made from tryptophan along with serotonin often described as the happy hormone.

Some foods are particularly high in tryptophan including eggs and milk. Unfortunately, where sleep is concerned, eating dairy products such as these two before going to bed is not the definitive answer as they contain other elements which interfere with sleep recovery and make tryptophan absorption difficult. For this reason Nocté should not be mixed with milk.

A protein fraction within cows milk is that particularly high in tryptophan is alpha-lactalbumin and latest scientific advances have made it possible to isolate this protein
At SiS we have used alpha-lactalbumin as Nocté’s source of tryptophan.

Evening intake of alpha-lactalbumin increases plasma tryptophan availability and improves morning alertness and brain measures of attention.

It is especially formulated to be steadily released into the blood stream through out the night, using magnesium caseinate to slow things down.
Nocté helps rest, repair and recovery and also keeps hunger pangs at bay, so sleep is not disturbed by the need to visit the fridge in the early hours. The protein content of Nocté has been devised using the Protein Kinetics System *

Magnesium

Role played in sleep recovery:
• Reduces night time muscle twitching
• Prevents restless leg syndrome

Magnesium is a mineral needed by the body for producing energy. Hard training and sleep deprivation both seriously deplete the body of magnesium. Magnesium depletion lowers the levels of growth factors (needed for growth hormone to work effectively), insulin and testosterone all of which are essential players in recovery from physical activity. Nocté provides the body with magnesium at the key time it is needed. This prevents night time magnesium losses which are the main cause of restless leg syndrome and twitching - both of which impair sleep. Calcium competes with magnesium for absorbtion so Nocté should not be taken with calcium supplements or high calcium foods.

Zinc

Role played in sleep recovery:
• Helps promote a healthy immune system
• Helps maintain the correct hormone environment
• Optimises protein and carbohydrate metabolism

Zinc is needed for protein and carbohydrate metabolism and is therefore an essential constituent of any recovery programme. Zinc is difficult to absorb from food and at SiS we have taken this into account and placed it in Nocté in an ideal form for use. Hard training depletes zinc levels significantly and this in turn has been shown to lower an individual’s ability to maintain the correct levels of testosterone, insulin and growth factor all of which are needed for muscle repair and recovery. Depleted zinc levels also impair immune function making active people more vulnerable to infection. Nocté addresses these problems with its slow releasing night time formula providing some much needed zinc.

Vitamin B6

Role played in sleep recovery:
• Essential for the efficient metabolism of protein.

Vitamin B6 plays an important role in helping the body use amino acids. It is a coenzyme which means it helps specific chemicals in the body break down and use protein. High levels of physical activity can deplete the levels of B6 in the body, as it is also used for producing energy. By adding B6 to Nocté, SIS has addressed the activity related depletion and the need for B6 to process protein. B6 also prevents the production of toxins in the body that are related to protein break down.

Pre biotics
(ingredients that promote a healthy stomach by promoting the beneficial gut bacteria)

Role played in sleep recovery:
• Help the body absorb the above nutrients effectively

As well as containing essential nutrients, Nocté also contains carefully selected ingredients to optimise the nutrient absorption rates and maximise immune system function. These ingredients help slow down the nutrient absorption rates so that the body can recover throughout the night; promote the absorption of the vitamins and minerals; boost the immune system.

SiS Protein Kinetics System
The protein Kinetics System is a little bit like the Glycaemic Index (GI) but for protein not carbohydrate. It is a measure of how quickly a protein is absorbed into the body. Each protein has a different absorption rate which can then be harnessed in sports performance and recovery products to ensure the body receives exactly what it needs at the correct rate. Protein absorption can be slowed down by mixing the proteins with other ingredients or kept to a maximum by using the protein in a very pure form.
SiS is unique in using the Protein Kinetics System to ensure all its products work in the body in the best possible way.

In the case of Nocté, the protein absorption rate has been slowed to guarantee a protein source throughout the night.
